Roundabout Quilting is the realization of a twenty year-old dream of the owner, Andra Rudershausen. A quilter from the beginning of her marriage, thirty years ago, she began to fantasize about the perfect quilt shop; a friendly place where creativity was encouraged by fun and challenging classes, beautiful fabrics and patterns, lots of books. The building had to be charming, the employees cheerful and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere just right.
All the stars aligned in June 2009, when a beautiful historic home became available for rent only two miles from Andra's house. So, as her youngest started school in Philadelphia, Andra started an adventure of her own. The distinctive name comes from several inspirations- the many round features incorporated into the building, the traffic circle near the store (or "roundabout" in England), and the fact Andra likes to talk a lot, but has trouble coming to the point....
And after extensive market research (read screech of brakes at any and all quilt and fabric stores, yes and money spent everywhere) Roundabout was born.
Our building is a beautiful three story brick home built in 1850. We believe it was modeled after a Philadelphia row house. Perhaps an early plan for building in the suburbs! The building was a private home for many, many years, surviving several modernizations, including the Victorian era. The current owner bought it, beautified the outside, and then, two years ago, totally renovated the interior as a gift shop. That tenant moved on, and the building was available...we snatched it up, and have been happily making it "ours" ever since.
We strive to have all the latest quilting supplies, beautiful and bright material, patterns, and books. Our goal is to make every visit to Roundabout fun and inspiring, with samples and displays which highlight a variety of techniques and projects, and classes to help you complete your own versions. Just for fun, we have some little gift items for the quilter and non-quilter alike. New for this year: Home decorating section! Books and free lectures on decorating, cooking, and using quilts in your decor.
